ETE Academics

College Park Scholars is comprised of eleven theme-oriented Living/Learning Program for academically-talented first- and second-year students enrolled in all majors and programs. Students are admitted to Scholars and to Environment, Technology & Economy (ETE) based upon their freshman application file. Students in ETE explore the pursuit of global sustainability and the relationship among the natural and built environments, technological advances, and various economic sectors including energy, industry, and agriculture. In ETE...

... Scholars choose courses that fill CORE general education and/or major requirements to explore how different disciplines address sustainability.

... Scholars actively participate in colloquia (CPSP 118, 218 and 239). Limited to 20 students each, these once-a-week classes are taught by supportive faculty who know everyone by name and are easily accessible after class.

... Scholars select from among 5-6 field trips each semester, including hiking expeditions in Shenandoah National Park, educational tours of green buildings, and participation in service activities and green business exhibitions. Many students participate in more than one field trip each semester!

... In CPSP 239E, ETE Scholars design an internship where they explore possible careers and link their major -- whatever it is! -- to global sustainability.

In ETE, we welcome and encourage a diversity of academic interests and personal backgrounds among our students and staff, and we hope you will soon be among them!
